“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together,
as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,
but you were not willing!” Matthew 23 v37
What a wonderful sight of a hen gathering her chicks under her wings. A place of comfort and protection, of refreshment and refuge. Hours before His death on the cross, Jesus lamented over Jerusalem. The people stubbornly refused to believe that the wrath of God was coming because of their sins. They had killed those sent by God. Yet, in His amazing grace, Jesus longed to gather and save them from the wrath to come. How often Jesus had called them to repent and believe but they blatantly refused. He was willing to save them but they were not willing to be saved. Jesus showed compassion for sinners in Jerusalem and still He shows compassion for us.
Like a hen giving her life to protect her chicks from a severe hailstorm. Jesus gave His life to save us from the judgement to come. Today, Jesus alone is willing and able to save you. Are you by faith under the shelter of His wings? Or are you going to face the judgment for your sins, without a Saviour?
May this picture of a hen with her chick peeping out among the feathers of the soft downy protection be a reminder to you of the love of Jesus. In all of life’s troubles we can find peace, under the shelter of His wings.
