“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14 v6
On the night before his crucifixion, Jesus was with his disciples. They were troubled when he spoke about going away. Jesus proclaimed words of great comfort; “Let not your hearts be troubled… I go to prepare a place for you… where I am there you may be also.” Jesus was speaking of his Father’s house in heaven. Thomas was confused. Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth and the life.”
Jesus is the only way to heaven. Like a man wanting a guide to take him across a vast trackless desert. “Where is the road?” the man asks. The guide replies, “I am the road.” Jesus is the way. He went to the cross to die for our sins, to open up the way to heaven. Jesus calls us to turn from our sins, and trust him as our Lord and Saviour, and he will bring us safely home.
Jesus is the truth. He can be relied upon to do what he said he would do. Condemned to death on the evidence of false witnesses the truth still prevailed. He suffered, and died and rose again the third day, just as he promised.
Jesus is the life. He is author of life and he came to give us abundant life. He promises eternal life to all who believe in him.
In this world there will be many significant people and places for us. But we are all just passing through. Where will your final destination be? Heaven or Hell? With Christ or without Christ?
By God’s grace, may you follow the WAY, believe the TRUTH and LIVE for his glory.
